This Whirlpool Dryer Thermostat Kit is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool dryers. It includes a high-limit thermostat (WP53-0771) and two thermal fuses (WP53-1096 & WP53-1182). The high-limit thermostat is a safety device that shuts off the heating element if the dryer overheats. The two thermal fuses included in the kit are also safety devices that protect against overheating. They are designed to shut off the power to the heating element if the temperature exceeds a certain limit. Both of these fuses are one-use and non-resettable.  A faulty high-limit thermostat may cause the dryer to overheat and shut off before the cycle is complete.
