Rare and unusual brass ship’s lantern from the 1920s, made by the French manufacturer Ets. Girardin. This is a beautiful and functional example, suitable for both oil and candle use—an uncommon and highly desirable feature.
These lamps were typically used as cabin lanterns, and its maritime origin is unmistakable thanks to the marking “Lanterne Marine”. The lantern is in working condition and displays a wonderful authentic look.
As expected from a lamp of this age, it shows signs of wear, which add character. Please refer to the photos for details.
A notable construction detail: the brass has been folded around the glass, visible at the bottom. The upper section was glued in the past, unfortunately not very neatly, and not in the original alignment—this is why the label now sits slightly crooked at the back.
The glass has some irregularities, but these were most likely present from manufacture.
Still perfectly usable as a charming oil lamp for atmospheric lighting, or simply as a decorative maritime piece.
Height (excluding handle): 24 cm
