NOS Vintage Nicoln Flashing Hurricane Lantern – Belgian Petroleum Road Worker Warning Lamp

Fantastic New Old Stock (NOS) vintage petroleum flashing hurricane lantern by Nicoln, complete and in working condition. These lanterns were traditionally used as road worker warning lights and are also known as petroleum flashing lamps or “flikkerlantaarns.”

The operating system is particularly fascinating: thanks to the specially designed airflow to the wick and burner, the lantern produces a flashing/blinking light effect while burning. This made it ideal as a highly visible safety lamp for roadworks and construction sites.

This example remains in unused and complete condition. The red lenses are made from plastic. Although the lantern has not been lit by me, I can provide a video of another working example upon request to demonstrate the flashing mechanism.

Naturally, there are only very light signs of age, adding subtle vintage character without affecting the excellent overall condition.

A wonderful addition to any antique lantern, industrial, or transportation collection.
